After setting a global record for the largest average F4 fields in 2018, the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda returns to Road Atlanta April 18-20 for its season opener with a strong 24-car lineup brimming with returning veterans and talented rookies.

Leading the two-car assault for the reigning driver’s championship winning team DC Autosport with Cape Motorsports is Teddy Wilson, who moves from the Jay Howard squad replacing 2018 champion Dakota Dickerson. Wilson, from South Luffenham, England, scored two poles and two podiums in his F4 series debut last April at VIR, and went on to claim seven top fives en route to seventh overall in the 51-driver championship.

Wilson’s DC Autosport teammate at Road Atlanta will be Ryan McElwee of Escondido, Calif.

Defending team champions Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport confirmed another powerhouse, multi-national driver lineup for 2019 with returning drivers Arthur Leist of Novo Hamburgo, Brazil; Jose Blanco of San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Joshua Car of Sydney, Australia. Karting champion Dante Yu of Temple City, California, completes the team’s roster.

Last season, Crosslink/Kiwi drivers dominated at Road Atlanta, with Blanco claiming the first win for the team.

“Road Atlanta has been very good to me back to when I started in open wheel at 16,” Blanco said. “Obviously last year having my first win of the season there was a great feeling. This season I expect more of the same. Hopefully we can win all the races, but most importantly come out of the weekend with good points for the championship.”

Car also found success in Atlanta last year: Starting 26th in Race 3 following a Race 1 incident, Car staged an amazing comeback, passing 19 cars to finish seventh. The thrilling drive was the start to the young Aussie’s standout rookie season, leading to a fourth-place overall finish in the driver championship.

Jay Howard Driver Development expanded its efforts in the off-season and will bring a fleet of seven red, white, blue and black Ligier JS F4 cars to the opener. While Christian Bogle and Wyatt Brichacek competed in select F4 events in 2018, this year’s JHDD lineup is comprised mainly of karting rookies, like UK karting champion and double Welsh champion Jonny Wilkinson, from Brackley, England, looking to advance through the single-seater echelons into the NTT IndyCar Series.

After spending three years building an impressive resume in rallycross, 18-year-old Californian Christian Brooks also elected to redirect his career target toward the NTT IndyCar Series. This year, Brooks will begin his new journey with JHDD in the F4 U.S. Championship, supported by Global Electronic Technology and Hot Wheels. In pre-season testing the nationally-ranked karter transitioned seamlessly to the 160hp Honda-powered formula car.

Alliance Racing also grew during the winter months, increasing from two to five entries for 2019. Returning to the Gas Monkey Energy Drink-sponsored team are Indiana residents Will Edwards and Chandler Horton. Joining them will be second-year F4 driver Dylan Tavella along with karts-to-cars rookies Zoey Edenholm and Ryan MacDermid.

Veteran F4 U.S. teams Group-A Racing and Primus Racing Team return for their fourth year competing in the FIA-supported championship. Also focused on developing drivers from karts to cars, both teams have produced several podium results throughout the years.

Aiden Yoder leads the attack for Primus Racing Team while Group-A Racing brings back David Porcelli, who had a promising single-event debut last year at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Of the rest, the youngest multi-car team in the championship, DEForce Racing, enters the tripleheader opening weekend with two 15-year-old Brazilians — Fransico “Kiko” Porto and Guilherme “Gui” Peixoto. Velocity Racing Development’s returning driver Oliver Clarke (Norfolk, England) has his sights set firmly on making a strong start to his new campaign. And finally, series newcomers Jenson Global Advisors and Quantum Racing Services complete the lineup of 2019 teams, both fielding single-car entries for drivers Inigo Leon (Mexico City, Mexico) and Matt Rivard (Kansas City, Mo.) respectively.

The F4 U.S. field kicks off the 2019 season on Thursday April 18 with a pair of official practices. The 30-minute qualifying session begins at 9 a.m. ET on Friday followed by Race 1 at 1:20 p.m. ET.
