Web alignment is an important part of a converting operation as a moving web of material has a tendency to track off course and wander out of alignment during converting processes. To avoid these problems, Edge Gide Systems automatically guide the web to assure production accuracy and reduce waste. Sensors are used to monitor the web position for lateral tracking, an actuator is used to shift the running web mechanically back on course whenever the sensor detects movement out of alignment of the set path.
Dancers are the most commonly used controller for desired web tension, to avoid stress on fragile web materials. The dancer control system consists of a power supply, dancer control, pivot point sensor, and tension brake or clutch, AC/DC drive-motor or step/servo drive-motor. Dancers provide the web tension while the control and controlling element stabilize dancer operation for unwind, intermediate zone or rewind tension.
